Women in Jazz Media presents: Jazz Sisters: A celebration of vocal jazz

A benefit event for Anita Wardell.

A special event to celebrate jazz vocalists and women in the jazz industry to raise money for renowned jazz vocalist Anita Wardell. Five outstanding vocalists from the British jazz scene, Vimala Rowe, Lily Dior, Esther Bennett, Diana Torti and Fiona Ross will bring their unique artistry to a range of jazz standards in an evening full of jazz tradition and elegant atmosphere, accompanied by one of the UK’s most loved pianists, Wendy Kirkland.

'Esther Bennett one of the jazz scene's most highly respected and widely loved vocalists “in her voice she possesses a most remarkable instrument” (Jazzwise).

“Kirkland impresses on every level. Superb. Recommended.” (Kind of Jazz).

'The powerful award-winning singer Vimala Rowe “…a singer of quite astonishing versatility and adaptability...” (London Jazz News).

The Australian Jazz & Soul Singer/Songwriter Lily Dior: “…her singing seems to tap into her innermost feelings…” (Cabaret Scenes).

Italian vocalist Diana Torti “an imaginative improviser who responds easily to musical impulse” (The New York Jazz City records).

The award winning Jazz vocalist, pianist, producer and composer Fiona Ross (also founder of Women in Jazz Media) “Her talents are simply extraordinary” (Kind Of Jazz).

A special night that is a benefit event to support the extraordinary and inspiring jazz singer Anita Wardell. Anita is not only an elegant and unique artist, but also a caring, generous friend and loving person. Anita was schedule to perform at Karamel on this night. Unfortunately, she has recently suffered from a stroke during the interval of a recent gig. Her band mates quickly drove her to the hospital saving her life. Now Anita is working tenaciously on her recovery, and is slowly getting better. She is having daily intensive physiotherapy sessions which are already bringing positive results.

As she will not able to perform nor to teach for some times, she needs financial help. All the proceeds raised with the event will be donated to support her recovery.

Any help is much appreciated and in case you will not able to attend the event you can support and make a donation through this link, on the GoFundMe page created by her close friends and family to support her:

As stated in the page: “We hope this crowd funding appeal will help Anita have some kind of stability in the coming months while she recuperates”.
