Jeanne Lee was a pioneering vocalist, composer and educator whose fearless artistic vision redefined the possibilities of the human voice in jazz. Renowned for her adventurous spirit and deeply expressive performances, she continually pushed musical boundaries with a rare sense of freedom and originality.
In Echoes of Jeanne Lee, vocalist Diana Torti and guitarist Sabino de Bari pay tribute to Lee's remarkable legacy, drawing particular inspiration from her historic and intimate collaborations with pianist Ran Blake. The programme also revisits Torti's critically acclaimed album On a Cloud, dedicated to Lee and named one of the Best Vocal Jazz Releases of 2019 by The New York City Jazz Record and JazzViews.
Rooted in Torti's extensive research into Jeanne Lee's life and artistic journey, and enriched through her creative partnership with Sabino de Bari, this project celebrates Lee's profoundly human approach to music-making. The result is an evocative performance that honours one of jazz's most visionary voices while offering a fresh and deeply personal interpretation of her enduring influence.
