Singer, songwriter and producer China Moses evolves her artistry in truth. Defiantly real, her music resists what so many labels and critics desire: category. She captivates listeners with her deep pocket, sensitivity and wit, drawing inspiration from endless styles in the expansive lineage of Black American music.

Frank and fearless, China’s songs document fleeting emotional states and extended narratives, often leaning into self-reflection both in lyric and phrasing. Her voice is a satin ribbon wrapped around a crackling flame. Listeners fortunate to observe her in live performance know the depth of her song interpretation. In a moment she can revolve a world.

China’s 2021 release & The Vibe Tribe EP, which features one of her recent touring bands — some of the creative music world’s most striking talents: Marijus Aleksa, Ashley Henry, Luigi Grasso and Neil Charles — received international praise. The Los Angeles-born artist turned life-long Parisian has performed all over the world and appeared on international television and film projects, including cult episode of “Moesha”: Songs in the Key of Strife, Julie Delpy’s “Lolo,” “The Princess and the Frog” (VO in French), Aurore Aubin’s “Sammy by Sammy” (VO) and “The Lion King 2019 The Circle of Life” (VO in French). China’s theatre credits include “Sally Bowles” in Cabaret and “Billie Holiday” in Cafe Society Swing. For more than a decade, the magnetic on-camera personality and consummate actor has appeared regularly on TV series, including national spots alongside Iggy Pop, Meryl Streep, Will Smith, Ciara, Nile Rodgers, Mariah Carey and Hugh Jackman.

Since 1997, China has issued seven leader releases on a number of major and independent labels including Virgin, EMI, Blue Note, Decca and MPS Records. In 2008, she founded her own production company MadeInChina, now home to her most recent leader releases This One’s for Dinah (2009), Nightintales (2017) and & the Vibe Tribe EP (2021). Provocative as her musical experiences, China’s broadcasting resumé currently features host-producer positions at celebrated radio shows “Made in China” on TSF Jazz (France) and “Late Night with China Moses” On Jazz FM (UK). She’s one of few women of color to host multiple radio shows across European and UK airwaves.

The self-dubbed high school dropout has been an artist her entire life. Daughter of legendary activist and director Gilbert Moses III and internationally acclaimed musician Dee Dee Bridgewater, China understands the music and its surrounding culture from the inside out. Along her varied musical paths, she has performed with Archie Shepp, Pee Wee Ellis, Theo Croker, John Beasley, Nils Landgren, John Patitucci, Magnus Lindgren, Jamie Cullum, Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington, Aloe Blacc, Lakecia Benjamin and Ian Shaw, sharing stages with legends Roy Hargrove, George Benson, Metropole Orkest Big Band, myriad philharmonics including Bogota, Trier, Dresden, Potsdam, Bilbao, Paris and Szczecin, WDR Big Band, HR Big Band, Metropole Orkest Big Band and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. She has recorded with Karriem Riggins, Lakecia Benjamin, DJ Mehdi, Meshell Ndegeocello, Fatoumata Diawara, Chilly Gonzales, GURU, Cerrone, DJ Cam, Daru Jones, Étienne De Crécy and Klaus Doldinger. As a songwriter who composes music and lyrics for the majority of her material, China has collaborated with Anthony Marshall, Oli Rockberger, Troy Miller, Alex Webb, Raphael Lemonnier, Gordon Cyrus & Bob Power.

A global artist and citizen, China has performed in more than 800 shows across six continents in the past 12 years. She has appeared at Ronnie Scott’s, Jazz Café, Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall in London, Olympia, UNESCO International Jazz Day and La Cigale in Paris, Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Opernhaus, Elbphilharmonie and Dresdner Philharmonie in Germany and Birdland and Nublu in New York City. One of her hidden skills is that of a powerhouse researcher — as a performing and recording artist, a broadcast professional and an international educator. China’s commitment to authentic representation and inclusive perspectives has garnered critical acclaim and peer acknowledgement. She’s a member of the 2013 Young Leader graduating class of the French American Foundation, holds the title Chevalier of St Emilion & Bergerac and has lent her expertise as a panellist at the 2020 Montreux Jazz Academy.

Athens born to Lebanese Canadian parents, Lara Eidi is an artist that thrives on being different. As an independent artist, singer and multi- instrumentalist, she has carved a path for herself that continuously aimed at reshaping and developing her voice as a storyteller. An accomplished and reputable singer-songwriter, pianist, recording artist and jazz- folk vocalist of her own accord based in London and Athens. Her music has gained her critical acclaim as a genre bending artist (BBC Artist, 2020), described as “a singer with true gift of a voice, a kind soul, and a captivating presence.” (Jazz UK). At the heart of her being as a multi-disciplinary artist, she is sought after as a composer for vocal film scores, writes as a freelance music journalist, and is in demand as a creative workshop leader. Her music seeks to elevate and heal, and as a result, she creates genre- defying songs with a great emphasis on story telling. Her latest album ‘Sun’, her long awaited debut album, is all about pulling the threads of her folk, acoustic rock and jazz-classical upbringing to her message of hope, empowerment, and freedom. As a soloist, her recent debut performance at the infamous Royal Albert Hall, singing select pieces from Greece and Lebanon form the Medieval Byzantine Traditions sees Lara engaging on a series of select and innovative performances with the SAUDHA Indian Classical Music Association.

Multi-award-winning jazz vocalist, lyricist and producer, Georgia Mancio, celebrates her 25th anniversary in music with a series of highlight concerts and the spring release of her 9th album, ‘A Story Left Untold’ (Roomspin Records), co-written with Grammy-winning pianist/composer, Alan Broadbent.

A supreme storyteller whose performances connect deeply with her audiences, Georgia’s work is characterised by authenticity, creativity, collaboration and a commitment to social and humanitarian issues.

Throughout this landmark year, she will feature her Quartet (Robin Aspland, Andrew Cleyndert, Dave Ohm); introduce new projects (Sam Dunn, Tony Kofi, Alex Hutton) and revisit her most pivotal partnerships (Liane Carroll, Ian Shaw, Nigel Price, Kate Williams, Gareth Lockrane). Central to these, is her revered 12 year association with Alan Broadbent, with whom she has written over 40 songs, published two books and performed across Europe and the US, including iconic venues, Ronnie Scott’s and Jazz at Lincoln Center (NYC).

Their new album, ‘A Story Left Untold’, masterfully blends the personal and political, across duo, quartet and orchestral settings. Set for release on 1 May with an accompanying 10 date tour, it completes a trilogy with the critically acclaimed ‘Songbook’ (2017) and ‘Quiet Is The Star’ (2021).

Georgia’s expansive artistry is reflected in her copious industry acknowledgements: First Prize in the Brussels International Jazz Singers’ Competition, presided over by Sheila Jordan (2006); Best Album (‘Finding Home’, 2020) and Best Vocalist (2021) at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, and multiple nominations at the Jazz FM, British Jazz and Urban Music Awards. Her reputation has been further consolidated by her formidable production skills, encompassing ‘ReVoice!’ – the international voice festival she devised and directed across multiple venues for 5 editions with artists including Gregory Porter, Carmen Lundy, Tuck & Patti, Beady Belle and Karin Krog (2010-2014) – and its successor, ‘Hang’ (2017-2019).

She also co-directs Eltham and Crystal Palace Jazz Clubs with drummer Dave Ohm, and her own independent label, Roomspin Records (2001-). Other credits include Pat Metheny (lyric approval),Bobby McFerrin, Bobby Wellins, Robert Mitchell, Nikki Iles and BBC Proms (2019).

Hannah Horton is a British Female Jazz Saxophonist whose music is rooted in jazz, folk and funk. She has performed with many great jazz artists including Ian Shaw, Amy Winehouse, John Etheridge, Tina May, Georgia Mancio, Polly Gibbons, Natalie Williams, Esther Bennett and Irene Serra; and at venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Dean St, The 606, The Pheasantry, Love Supreme Jazz Festival, Royal Festival Hall and The Barbican. She has also toured in Europe and USA with her own and other groups. With her voice, Yumi Ito creates worlds far beyond all boundaries. The Polish-Japanese-born Swiss is considered one of the most outstanding representatives of vocal improvisation and moves effortlessly between genres and her roles as a singer, pianist and composer. Ito's own music is correspondingly diverse, a veritable ocean of art-pop, jazz and neoclassical music. Based on countless concerts and tours, the musician acts like a Zen master, clear, reflective and with a uniquely powerful energy.

Milestones in her career include performances at the Blue Note New York (US), Montreux Jazz Festival (CH), tours in Asia, South America, Europe and five released albums as a band leader, most recently the critically highly acclaimed Ysla (2023 via enja records).

Ito regularly fills international concert venues and festivals to capacity, including recent sold out shows at the JazzArt Festival at NOSPR in Katowice (Poland), the Veneto Jazz Festival at the legendary La Fenice in Venice (Italy), the Akbank Jazz Festival in Istanbul (Turkey), the Euro-Venezuelan Jazzfestival (Venezuela) and the ZOA Festival in Ardagger Stift (Austria). The prize winner of the Montreux Jazz Competition was selected for the Focus Year Program under Wolfgang Muthspiel at the Jazzcampus Basel (2017–2018), received the High Priority Jazz Grant from Pro Helvetia (2022–2024), and was unanimously chosen by the Jazzahead jury for a Showcase at Jazzahead in Bremen, Germany (2024).

Bringing together inspirational women from across the globe, the award-winning Women in Jazz Media organisation, in partnership with Karamel Club, present an exclusive photography exhibition: Women in Jazz Photography: Her Frame. Her Sound

A unique opportunity to celebrate women working in jazz both behind and in front of the camera. Inspirational moments in jazz captured by some of the incredible female photographers leading the way in jazz photography. Exhibiting legends such as Geri Allen, Abbey Lincoln, Alice Coltrane, Nina Simone to contemporary artists including Lakecia Benjamin, Nubya Garcia and Brandee Younger, there has never been an exhibition like this. Legendary and award-winning photographers from South Africa, New York, Poland and the United Kingdom, this breathtaking exhibition features the work of Val Wilmer, Monika S Jakubowksa, Vuyo Giba, Tatiana Gorilovsky, Enid Farber and Kasia Ociepa.

Women in Jazz Media are an award winning not for profit organisation who promote, support and celebrate women who work in Jazz, through a range of exciting initiatives.

Their entirely female led online magazines have seen readership grow to almost 50,000 over the past four years and photography has always been at the fore front of their work. They facilitated the inclusion of the first female photographers in the National Jazz Archive in 2022.

Fiona Ross, founder of Women in Jazz Media explains ‘it is time for women on the walls! Where would we be without photography? Photography captures incredible moments and gift us with those memories. Artists need photos, venues need photos, publications need photos and audiences cherish photos. And yet, photographers are rarely credited and often photos are used without permission. This is a significant issue for all photographers irrelevant of gender.  Walk into most jazz clubs across the world and you will likely see some incredible photography which helps to encapsulate the feel and vibe of the club. But who took the photos? Are they credited? And if you are lucky enough to see women on the walls, they are rarely instrumentalists. It is time to change the narrative.’

The exhibition is open for three months, launching on April 10th at London’s award winning Karamel Club. Nestled in the heart of the Creative Quarter, the club have supported a thriving community of musicians, producers, artists and creative businesses. Winning Time Out awards and Trip Advisor choice awards the space has become renowned for Live music, Jazz World music, Spoken Word and Indian Classical music, showcasing the best in emerging talent - with the occasional legend thrown in the mix. In true collective style, the gallery and artwork that lights up the walls is all sourced from some of the world-renowned artists residing within the building. Many of the venue staff are fellow creatives, and they are part of local arts charity, Collage Arts, that has helped a diverse community make music and art for over 38 years.

The Photographers

Enid Farber resides in New York City and has been photographing mostly jazz musicians since 1979 but her work includes artists from a variety of genres, including Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Bob Marley, Charlie Watts, Diana Ross, Bono and Celia Cruz who have all appeared before her lens. In the 20th anniversary issue Jazziz, said,"If we were to identify a JAZZIZ visual historian, her name would no doubt be Enid Farber. For longer than a decade, her photography has taken readers on an odyssey, to experience the most adventurous music and to meet the most interesting personalities, from both the new and traditional worlds of jazz."

Vuyo Giba is a South African -based photographer, writer, and creative professional dedicated to preserving South African jazz heritage. Her work spans jazz, abstract, and lifestyle photography, capturing evocative narratives through imagery. With experience in film production, research, and project coordination, she collaborates with artists and communities to document and celebrate cultural stories.

Tatiana Gorilovskyis a London-based photographer specializing in music photography, particularly jazz. She has captured the dynamic spirit of the genre for renowned venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express, 606 and others, as well as festivals including the EFG London Jazz Festival and Love Supreme Festival. Tatiana loves experimenting with long exposure and multiple exposure to capture the sounds, rhythm and energy of Jazz. Her images are held in the National Jazz Archive and have been featured in prominent publications such as Jazzwise Magazine, The Times, The Guardian, Financial Times, Billboard, UK Jazz News, The Independent, Time Out London and others

Kasia Ociepa is a Wales-based photographer specialising in jazz, events, weddings, and portrait photography, with a deep love for fine art photography. Originally from Poland, she moved to the UK in 2006 and transitioned from garden design to professional photography during lockdown. As the resident photographer for Black Mountain Jazz Club, she has documented the club’s vibrant jazz scene, with her images used by musicians for album covers, press materials, and social media. Kasia sees photography as storytelling, capturing the energy and emotion of live music, and she is always happy to collaborate with musicians and event organisers.

The award-winning photographer Monika S Jakubowska is renowned across the world.  As the in-house photographer for prestigious London venues, Ronnie Scott’s and Kings Place, she has captured award winning images of legends and is the photographer of choice by many artists. Her portfolio is vast and includes Jeff Goldblum, Genesis, Macy Gray, John Legend, Jazz royalty Dee Dee Bridgewater, George Clinton and Courtney Pine to name a few. Darius Brubeck included Monika’s photographer in his foreword to the brilliant book Sight Readings: Photographers and American Jazz, which was nominated for book of the year by the jazz Journalist Association. She is the go to photographer for esteemed publications including The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, The Financial Times, Jazzwise and Women in Jazz Media and she is one of two first female photographers to be included in the National Jazz Archive in the UK where her work is on permanent display.

World renowned British writer and photographer, Val Wilmer has been following and documenting blues, jazz, African and Caribbean music for over fifty years.

Wilmer’s historic and sizable photo archives contain some of the most recognizable images in the world. Val has interviewed and photographed hundreds of American and British blues musicians and has been exhibited extensively (Victoria and Albert Museum 1973). Her iconic images are held in photographic collections including the Arts Council of Great Britain (Victoria and Albert Museum); Musee d’Art Moderne (Paris); Smithsonian Museum (Washington D.C.); Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (New York Public Library) and the National Portrait Gallery.

Exhibition runs from the 10th of April to the 30th of June.
